Branch outlet fitting

Branch outlet fitting

(OP)
I am looking for a standard that provides design requirements for designing a pipe branch outlet fitting.  I am trying to find out the requirements for the hole cut.  I have been told there are a couple specs out there and they differ in what they say (i.e. pipe size=4" hole should be =2" or hole should be 3").  Any help on this is appreciated.

RE: Branch outlet fitting

kokopei,

Look at B16.9 Factory-MAde Wrought Buttwelding Fittings, or B16.11 Forged Fittings, Socket-Welding and Threaded.

For reinforcement of Welded Branch Connections look at ASME B31.3 para. 304.3

RE: Branch outlet fitting

MSS SP-97 Integrally Reinforced Forged Branch Outlet Fittings -Socket WElding, Threaded, and Buttwelding Ends.

MSS Website is www.mss-hq-com

RE: Branch outlet fitting

kokopei,

I assume that you're talking about "olet" type fittings like Weldolets, Threadolets, etc.

Contact Bonney Forge or another manufacturer for this information. I have an old pamplet, W-8, 1974 from Bonney Forge that gives all of the hole cut-out dimensions for their fittings.

I caution that other manufacturers may vary, I'm not sure.

Good luck,
