LOOKING FOR A STEEL

LOOKING FOR A STEEL

LOOKING FOR A STEEL

(OP)
Looking for a steel with properties as follows
That will not gall under high-speed dry friction contact

Any feed back appreciated

RE: LOOKING FOR A STEEL

A little more information is needed.
Is this steel on steel?
What speed and loads?
Are you referring to only CS?

And anything else that might help in visualizing your problem.

RE: LOOKING FOR A STEEL

(OP)
Speed will be approx. 230m/s
Load 800N
Steel on steel

(This is for a thrust surface)

Thanks

RE: LOOKING FOR A STEEL

I would hate to have steel on steel. If you cannot have a lubricant present then grey iron has free graphite which acts as a lubricant. Make the non-moving surface grey iron and the moving surface harden steel. You can buy grey iron in continuously cast bar from Durabar.

RE: LOOKING FOR A STEEL

It will be better to use nodular iron, which have mechanical proporties like a steel, but free carbon is like lubricant.
