Which well to choke?

Which well to choke?

Which well to choke?

(OP)
I am trying to model the commingling of two oil wells. Well One has a flowing well head pressure of 41 bar and Well Two has a flowing well head pressure of 52 bar.

Do i choke the Well Two down to 41 bar so that this well does not 'back out' Well One?

Or do i choke back Well One so that the pressure will increase due to the back pressure and then can commingle with Well Two at 52 bar?

Thanks
Brad

RE: Which well to choke?

Brad

The pressure in the commingled header will depend on the pressure drop in the system from the platform (or whatever) based on the total flow rate from the two wells (i.e. the back pressure on the wells).  Both wells will experience the same topsides pressure, and each flowing pressure will change accordingly.

In effect the wells will equalise to a point on their respective PQ (production rate vs flowing pressure) curves with one decreasing production, and the other increasing production rate respectively (say at 46 barg).

For accuracy you need the production profile for each well to get accurate production rates for the corresponding topsides production pressure.

Hope that helps....
