rotating parts in assembly
rotating parts in assembly
(OP)
In an assembly, can you rotate an individual part about its own axis? It looks like you can select the axis and drag the part around it, but there is no provision to rotate by a specific angle. You have to remove the mates, rotate the part about the assembly xyz, which puts it into some other position on the screen, and then put it back into the assembly.

RE: rotating parts in assembly
You might try mating the axis of the part to 2 different planes to get the part "on center", one to control left & right movement, the other to control up and down. Then mate a plane of the part you want to rotate (that is parallel to the axis) to a parallel plane in the assembly using an angle mate. Then you can change the angle to get your part to rotate. Hope this is all clear as mud.

I belive what you are looking to do is to "Move with Triad"
To do this you have to right-click on the component you would like to move, then select "Move with Triad"
You should get a triad that pops up on your screen. Then select the center of the Triad and move it to a circle, point or other reference point that you want to rotate from.
once you have the triad placed, right click the center of the triad and select "Show Rotate Delta XYZ Box"
You should get a pop-up of XYZ Rotate box. then input the rotation angle in the appropriate delta box and it will rotate from that point that you specified.
This can be done in SW 2004 & 2005. Not sure about other releases.
SW help has detailed instructions with pictures to give you a better understanding of this feature. Just do a search for "Move component with triad"
Hope this was helpful to you!
