CORROSION INHIBITORS FOR CONCRETE
CORROSION INHIBITORS FOR CONCRETE
(OP)
I am considering a concrete mix design for placing over corroded steel sheet piles at a dock location. It has been suggested that a corrosion inhibitor should be added. How effective are these?

If you want info on corrosion inhibitors for concrete structures many of the concrete admixture companies manufacture and sell them - try SIKA, MASTER BUILDERS etc etc)...whether they work it not i think the jury is still out. Check out ICPIC (Internation Conference for Polymers In Concrete) it has some good info.
I have several references on research undertaken on corrosion inhibitors for concrete structures if you are interested.
malakin - regardless of the concrete mix design you do need to undertake some good surface prep of the old steel sheet piles to adequately undertake the remediation. You could also condider encapsulation with or without galvanic CP.

I am interested to know if any of the "several references on research undertaken on corrosion inhibitors for concrete structures" are available on the web.
Thanks for your input!

Yes, probably best to start with www.corrosioninhibitors.org
Several manufacturers of CI links are there too, with tech info etc etc.
Michael Sprinkel, from the Virginia Transportation Research Council has done some research on CI (including migrating CI's) and i attended him paper at the International Conference of Polymers in Concrete (ICPIC) in 2001 and it is worth getting hold of his work.
The International Concrete Repair Institute (www.icri.org) also did a seminar on whether they work or not, dosage and re-application rates etc.
