How do I place a point at the intersection of a line and a plane?

How do I place a point at the intersection of a line and a plane?

How do I place a point at the intersection of a line and a plane?

(OP)
Greetings all!  I hope someone can shed some light on this problem.  I've used Intergraph EMS for ages and have been making the transition to UG NX2 over the last year.

EMS could find the intersection between a line and a plane/surface.  UG doesn't seem to like it.  Would it make a difference if the line was going through a solid?

On another note, I'm also having trouble placing a point at the intersection of a helix and an arc.  The helix has the same diameter as the arc.  It looks like the arc and helix are definitely touching, but when I place a point at the intersection of the two, the point is not where you'd think.  It is on the same plane as the arc, but not at the visible intersection of the arc and helix.

I tried a search and didn't find anything this specific.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

RE: How do I place a point at the intersection of a line and a plane?

Intersection line/surface: go to point constructor and choose intersection point. Pick surface first then the line (it doesn't seem to like line first then surface).

I have not tried making an intersection point of an arc and helix before but here are a few tips: the wcs orientation and pick order matter. Two curves don't have to physically intersect to find an intersection point (you can get a virtual intersection point). Let's say you have 2 lines that look like they intersect on your screen but they really don't because they have different Z values; it will return the point they would intersect if they had the same Z value (and the point will be created on the curve that you pick first).

Thanks!  That first tip worked.  I keep forgetting how important the selection order can be with UG.

Creating a point in this manner resolves my other issue.  I just revolved a line to make a surface where I need the point.
