Measurement of % Liquids in Pipelines

Measurement of % Liquids in Pipelines

Measurement of % Liquids in Pipelines

(OP)
Are there accurate, on-line instruments to measure and monitor mass percentage of  liquids in piping handling hydrocarbons?

RE: Measurement of % Liquids in Pipelines

sir, iwant to know about designing of refinery product storage tanks.

I have no idea - I work in the vibrations area and was asking for a monitor relating to compressor vibration causes. The API - www.api.org may have publications on storage tanks.

RE: Measurement of % Liquids in Pipelines

If there is one, the whole gas industry would like to know about it.  Other than separating the liquid from the gas first, there is no direct method.  A GC tied to an equation of stae could get close, but predicting the properties of the heaviest componets in the back flush adds to uncertainty.  I know PECO filters in Mineral Wells Texas has some equipment that can measure droplet size, they use to quantify them for their filters,

I'll watch for more responces too.

kvaerner oilfield products manufacture a multiphase meter for measuring %oil, water and gas based on dual gamma-ray densiometry.

smajeed, you are best to start a new thread with your question rather than burying it in an unrelated one.  You'll get more answers if it's got it's own title (no one looking for questions on tanks would think of looking in a thread on measurement of % liquids in a pipeline).

API 650 is a common standard used for tanks.  how large of tanks are you talking about?

Try and visit www.Solartron.com and follow the link to ISA Controls.

Dualstream II, based on technology developed with Advantica (formerly the R & D division of British Gas PLC), is capable of measuring wet gas flows on GVF's down to at least 90% and determining the gas and liquid fractions in real time. No sampling or tracer measurement is required. Once the meter has been installed, no further operator intervention is required in normal operating circumstances. Uncertainties of ±5% are achieved on gas and better than ±10% on liquid.
