Threads in Assembly Drawings

Threads in Assembly Drawings

Threads in Assembly Drawings

(OP)
I am trying to determine the best route for threads in our SW files.  Right now we use simplified toolbox fasteners, but there have been complaints that the bolts look like rivets in assembly drawings.  I have tried cosmetic threads.  They work great in assemblies but do not appear in the drawings.  It looks like I will need to move to schematic threads to get the desired results.

Has anyone else had experience with this situation?
Am I stuck with "rivets" or CPU intensive threads?

Nick

RE: Threads in Assembly Drawings

It's either the rivet look with a cosmetic thread, or actual thread. You could fake it though. Make a boss revolve and linear pattern it. See this example http://www.scottjbaugh.com/Design_Portfolio/SW%20M... - See Types of threads.zip  There is a configuration showing thise as well as a config showing true threads.

If you went with real threads, the user would complain about slow downs and that will be the result if you use true threads. I was with a company that required true threads. They had to eat expensive computer cost to keep up. It gets pointless after a while, because you can only go so fast versus your complexity.

RE: Threads in Assembly Drawings

You can get the cosmetic threads to show in an assembly drawing, they just do not come in by default.

Select the view and "Insert Model Items".  Check the cosmetic thread box.

RE: Threads in Assembly Drawings

I would just apply crosshatch or sketch curves in the assembly drawing.  I do not like to carry the burden of purely graphical features in the parts and assemblies.
