high temperature thermistors

high temperature thermistors

(OP)
Are there any low cost thermistors that can operate up to 350C or 400C?  I am trying to measure the temperature in a flue that can get up to ~700F with a probe that connects to a circuitboard I am designing.  I'm not sure if I need PTC or NTC, but I can probably make it work with either.

RE: high temperature thermistors

Although you can get thermistors that operate at these sort of temperatures, a quick check on several websites suggests that the packaging of the device may not be ideal for placing inside a flue.

Have you considered using a linear resistance type (e.g. PRT) or even a thermocouple? These are usually available in ruggedised stainless steel sleeves which can be mounted with various bushes or glands into the flue, and are more able to withstand flue gases.

RE: high temperature thermistors

Use a thermocouple.

They have well-defined characteristics, while a thermistor has rather more variable characteristics and may need to be specifically calibrated for each individual thermistor. The t/c will survive for a long time in the flue duct if you spec an industrial type with a stainless or inconel sheath.
