Galvanising
Galvanising
(OP)
I am working on a cable stayed bridge. Galvanised wires pass through curved galvanised steel tubes cast into a reinforced concrete tower and then connect to the bridge deck at either site to form symmetrical stay cables. The client is insisting that we grout these galvanised wires into the tubes immediately after installation in order that the grout rather than friction will resist the differential forces at each side of the tower.
My question is whether it is possible that friction can in any way damage galavanising of the wires?

Grout is a good idea. Compatibility and polarisation tests already carried out. The design is fine just the sequence of implementation. The client feels friction may "rub off" the galvanising. This seems more than unlikely, but we have no documentation at our remote site to prove otherwise.
