ATI's verses Nvidia graphics card in a lap top?

ATI's verses Nvidia graphics card in a lap top?

ATI's verses Nvidia graphics card in a lap top?

(OP)
I see that HP is offering a ATI's MOBILITY(tm) FireGL(tm) T2 graphics in a Compaq nw8000 Mobile Workstation to run SolidWorks. I'm running a Dell M60 with a NVidia Quadro FX with SolidWorks. When I made my decision there was no competition to Dell. Does any one have any history with the Compaq, ATI and SW, or know how it stacks up?

RE: ATI's verses Nvidia graphics card in a lap top?

If you go to the SW website: http://www.solidworks.com/pages/services/VideoCard... - Look under Hewlett Packard and click SHow passing - You will find that laptop and that card. SW shows them as passing.

As for my Personal Opinion... HP makes great Printers, but the Computers (that I have ever seen) Leaves a bad taste in your mouth after using one.

RE: ATI's verses Nvidia graphics card in a lap top?

I have an Acer laptop with an ATI 9200 video card in it.  I love the laptop (hated the 2 Compaqs before it, will never go back) but the ATI card has a lot of graphics issues with SolidWorks.  From the laptops I've seen, go with either a good nVidia card (like the 5700) or a laptop with an Ati FireGL card that is certified for SolidWorks.  They have those here at work, and they run fine.

RE: ATI's verses Nvidia graphics card in a lap top?

I have a dell inspiron 600m w/ 32mb ATI graphics card.  I've never had any problems with it, while running solid works.  Actually it runs rather smooth. :)
