Experience with Lokring Fittings

(OP)
Does anyone have experience with Lokring Fittings?  Their manufacturer (www.Lokring.com) claims that you can save approximately 25% on an installed cost basis over a traditional socket weld system.  The fittings are about 8 to 10 times more expensive than a socket weld fitting, but the installation labor is considerably less yielding the savings.  I have tried to specify them on a job, but our construction types don’t want to use them, even though they complain about the problems with socket weld systems, such as welder qualification, and productivity.

RE: Experience with Lokring Fittings

I wanted to use them on a job also.  Same problem - our construction guys wouldn't cooperate for several BS reasons.  Real reason was - they didn't want the loss in revenue due to reduced construction cost resulting from no welding.  I don't blame them for that but in this age of alliances and gainsharing etc. that argument doesn't cut the mustard.

Thanks!
Pete

RE: Experience with Lokring Fittings

tommac,
we have used dozens of them at our facility. process lines, 30 and 90 # condensate, process water with great success. they are very user friendly and to date no failures or problems. I won't say that they will replace a welder, being one myself, but they do come in handy when shutdown time is limited. I know another division of ours used them on a 400 ft fuming sulfuric acid line (oleum)@ 10 years ago and they are still using it today. cut installation time by more than 65%.
