Sustainable Production of Ground Water

Sustainable Production of Ground Water

Sustainable Production of Ground Water

(OP)
My engineering text books are silent on the protocols/analysis behind calculating sustainable production rates from ground water wells. Assume the source is potable. And I understand the business of production logs, but what do you need to know and how do you go about calculating a safe yet sustainable production rate for a ground water well? Good books or references that I can checkout? Application is residential.

RE: Sustainable Production of Ground Water

Call two or three well drillers in the area. They will be able to tell you what a well will produce. Most wells don't have aproduction rate until you start pumping and establish the well. They can also give you prices based on size and depth. they know where the water is and how it will come up in the casing.

RE: Sustainable Production of Ground Water

The question also is a bit: what exactly do you call sustainable? A production rate below or equal to the rate of natural groundwater replenishment? That also will much depend on the local hydro geological situation and the general groundwater use in the area, so it is hard to give a general rule without knowing the local setting.

I found a quite good and down to earth Canadian article on the issue. It is titled: "Evaluating Long-Term Well Capacity for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity." Here is the link: "http://wlapwww.gov.bc.ca/wat/gws/gwdocs/eval_well/well.htm

Hope that helps!

Best
