Oval Cart Pull Conveyor

Oval Cart Pull Conveyor

(OP)
A customer has an application for a conveyor to pull carts around a 100' x 50' oval.  There will be 37 wheeled carts each weighing 300lb.  The top speed would be 8fpm with a normal speed of 2fpm.  It needs to be possible to unhook carts and roll them away from line.

What we have in mind is an overhead monirail type conveyor that is turned sideways with hooks facing outboard.  This would be mounted 12" off floor.

I do not have any experience with this type of arrangment.  This is still in the design stage and open to change.

Any ideas, suggestions, words of wisdom or links will be appreciated.

What type of chain?  Where to buy it?  Type of drive?  Type of take up?

RE: Oval Cart Pull Conveyor

What you want is standard stuff:  chain conveyor, inverted monorail, or monorail.  Don't try to do it yourself, use a vendor.  They typically have all the components already engineered for connect/disconnect, sidetrack, etc.

Here's a couple of vendors I looked at for a similar project:
