How To Send Current Through A Gap
How To Send Current Through A Gap
(OP)
Currently working on an application where (2) electromagnetic brakes are mounted to (2) wrapping devices. The wrapping devices rotate simultaneously by an opened rotating ring.
How is it possible to send current through the gap in the ring creating a closed loop system to control the brakes?
Any response will be greatly appreciated!

RE: How To Send Current Through A Gap
Sometimes, the not so elegant solutions are better. I would arrange an energy store on the moving part, probably an electric accumulator, and let an infrared signal control the brakes. To make things more energy-efficient, I would use a mechanism that latches in both positions (braking and non-braking). Energy would then be consumed only when changing from one position to the other.
If you need continous and variable braking (to control tape tension?) a small DC motor to set the brake tighter or looser seems to be a good solution. Again, no energy used when braking not changed.
