How Do I Reset Menu Items?

How Do I Reset Menu Items?

How Do I Reset Menu Items?

(OP)
Hello All,

I have made a small mistake when editing my menus. I accidently deleted the "Customize..." out of the "Tools" menu. How do I get that back in there?

I have a bad feeling I might have to do a re-install.

Please help!!

RE: How Do I Reset Menu Items?

Try RMB on unused toolbar area
Click on Customize > Menu
Highlight Tools under Categories section
Scroll down thru Commands section & select Customize (if you can) & then Add > OK.

If it is not available, make sure &Tools is selected in the Change what menu box
Select Auto in the Poistion in menu box
Try typing Customi&ze... in the Name of command box, then OK

RE: How Do I Reset Menu Items?

Sudden afterthought ...

In the Tools dropdown menu is the Customize menu available? if it is, select it, then "tick" Customize

How did you delete/remove the Customize in the first place?

RE: How Do I Reset Menu Items?

Which one?

RE: How Do I Reset Menu Items?

I was adding macro commands to the tools menu and I must have clicked on Customize and accidentally deleted it.

I have learned a valuble lesson to be VERY careful when editing the menu commands.

RE: How Do I Reset Menu Items?

On second thought neither worked CBL.

When I tried it I was in the part level.

For some reason when I open my drawing templates the "Tools-Customize.." is not there.

I think I am going to do a re-install. and just be more careful when editing the menu items.

RE: How Do I Reset Menu Items?

You may have to switch it back on in all your templates, via the Customize menus

RE: How Do I Reset Menu Items?

(OP)
Well I did a re-install of the program and it still did not fix it.

I cannot turn it back on in my template because i cannot gain acess to the menu to do it.

When I deleted it off the "Tools" menu it also deleted it off the RMB menu "Cutomize.."

I am not sure what else to do.

Maybe I can use copy settings wizard to copy someone else's settings onto mine. Any Ideas??

well I removed the registry and still has not resolved the issue.

I cannot belive that there is no backdoor to get to the "Tools- Customize.." dialog box.

I guess i will have to live with it for the time being.

RE: How Do I Reset Menu Items?

The fact that you were able to regain access to the Customize while in a part suggests that it has not actually been deleted or removed from the system ... just hidden.

When you RMB on a toolbar & the drop down menu appears ... is there a double chevron at the bottom?
If so click on it to reveal the Customize & Customize menu

Also when or if you regain access, read the Customize, menus in the Help-Index file to find out how to reset the menus to the system default.

For both the above, I believe each template (prtdot, drwdot & asmdot)will have to be reset.

RE: How Do I Reset Menu Items?

With "Customize menu" and the bottom of each menu. WHy can't you just go into "Customize menu" and turn Customize back on?

You can't remove "Customize Menu" from the bottom of any of the drop down menus.

RE: How Do I Reset Menu Items?

Well one would think that you cannot delete the "Customize.." from the Tools menu for obvious reasons. But for some reason when I was adding macro commands to the Tools menu for the drawing level I must have accidentally deleted it somehow. When I click on "Customize Menu" for the Tools menu I cannot turn "Customize.." back on by checking a mark next to it because it is not there. Also When I RMB a blank tool bar area I do not get the double chevron symbol at the bottom to expand the menu, What I get is a menu with a few missing items at the top of the menu(just blank spaces) and the option to "Customize Menu" at the bottom. When I click the "Customize Menu" I do not get the option to turn "Customize.." back on.

What I would like to do is to do a Clean install(meaning completly remove all files associated with solidworks off my system and re-install like it was the first time)

Does anyone have proper steps to follow to accomplish this task?

RE: How Do I Reset Menu Items?

FYI - FAQ559-488 - This does a clean uninstall and reinstall

But,

If you want to go further in your Registry, your on your own. You can do a search in your registry for solidworks. It's up to you but you can delete those entries, but it that is a use at your own risk. Because if you remove the worng key then you be replacing your OS.

Thanks for all your help and valuable suggestions.

I have learned a valuable lesson:

Be very careful when editing menu items.

If you are not careful and delete a menu item that is needed alot you will be forced to re-install your solidworks to get them back.

P.S. Scott the files should be on there way but I have managed to fix the problem by doing a clean install per your suggestions.

Thanks again!

Jon

RE: How Do I Reset Menu Items?

Interesting, I have tried to delete customize... and I cant.

There are two customize commands in the tool menu, Customize... and Customize Menu.  You did say you deleted cutomize...?  I tried and can't, nice one.

RE: How Do I Reset Menu Items?

(OP)
I would recommend that you do not mess with deleting the "customize..."

However if you would like to try: go to "customize..."

1. Select the Menus tab

2. Select Tools from the Catagories window

3. Go to where it says "Position on Menu"

4. Scroll down till you find "Customi&ze..."

5. Now click on REMOVE and then select OK.

**I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO THIS UNLESS YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO A CLEAN RE-INSTALL**

Lesson Learned from all this: Don't mess with menu commands unless you are absolutely sure you know what you are doing.
