Animator, Photoworks, - How can they help me

Animator, Photoworks, - How can they help me

Animator, Photoworks, - How can they help me

(OP)
Hi,

I'm currently running solidworks 2005 and I am thinking aboout purchasing the Office Upgrade.  I have no experience when it comes to animator and photoworks and I would like to know how these 2 specific programs has helped your company or engineering department.  I am not quite sure how these programs can help, so any feedback would be great.  Thanks alot for any feedback you may have.

RE: Animator, Photoworks, - How can they help me

They help our sales department tremendously.  All our products are custom built for each consumer.  We sell every design from a rendering.  Some people just don't understand your typical engineering drawing but throw a rendering in front of them of the same product in the drawing and the can really see what's happening.  If you do lots of product communication with the public it well worth the upgrade.

We use Photoworks quite extensively.  With a little practice, you can produce pictures of your products before you actually manufacture the components.  Most of our sales brochures use Photoworks renderings instead of photographs.  It is cheaper than paying a professional photographer and most people can't tell the difference.
Animator is used occasionally for presentations.  Again, these can be created well before your first prototype.  It works very well for persuading management to support the project.

We use Solidworks Animator to show the manufacturing process that we do. It is very helpful to those that are not familiar with the product. Like the old saying goes " A picture is worth a thousand words". As discussed above Photoworks is a great asset to producing photo-realistic renderings of your product before it is even built. You can also cutomize it to the specific materials your company always uses. I would defintely reccomend the upgrade.

Animator has been upgraded/changed in the 2005 release.  I have had many problems with the previous versions, so I haven't found it of much use.  The new release looks promising, although I've not yet made time to check it out.

PhotoWorks, on the other hand, will give you the capacity to sell designs before they're even created, as mentioned above.  It's also improved somewhat in 2005.  You might want to check out a few examples of what can be attained from PhotoWorks:

Check it out.  It's a powerful rendering engine.
