Out of balance torque of the fixture

Out of balance torque of the fixture

Out of balance torque of the fixture

(OP)
Hi Folks,

My first time posting on here.

I am about to start the design of a rotary fixture, in order to specify the correct drive etc, i need to work out the 'out of balance torque of the fixture'.

What is the calculation for this, it has been a long time since i specified a torque of this nature.

Thanks

Gary

RE: Out of balance torque of the fixture

Hi ahldesign

I think you need to work out the centre of gravity of the
fixture and then its complete mass.
You can then work out the out of balance force ie:-(centrifugal force) provided you know the axis of rotation of your fixture relative to the centre of gravity.
The out of balance force is then equal to :-

    force= m*w^2*r

where m= mass of fixture
      w= angular velocity of fixture
      r= distance between axis of rotation and the centre of
         gravity of fixture.

If you look in any mechanics book you should find formula's
lke the one above and also how to calculate balancing your fixture.

THANKS,

I phoned an old colleague / boss who put me straight,he gave me exactly the same formula as above.

Cheers
