rendering problems. help!!!

(OP)
help!!!

because the quality of the rendering in pro/engineer wildfire, i had tried to import to 3d max 6 (VRML format) but the resolution of the model is lower and seems no way to change it. please help.

also, i need a high qulitity rendering image from pro/engineer model, please give some suggestion, which render engin or software is the best for import model from cad programs, for instance, pro/engineer, solidworks, catia's model or iges/step format. i tried solidworks 2004, catia v5r11 and imagestudio 1.0, but they all are not good enough (the rendering quality like 3d max will be ok. also the rendering must display very accurate metal texture, because i am designing hardware and making some vertual protype). please help me too.

best regards,

hc.

RE: rendering problems. help!!!

Export them in .obj then import in 3d max and assign all textures you want. render the models in 3ds max.

RE: rendering problems. help!!!

We use 3D studio max, but we export STL files.  You can change the chord height to make your model more accurate.

RE: rendering problems. help!!!

Hi TXS

I've played around with the chord height etc when exporting a STL file in Pro/E on a current project.
3ds Max seems to smooth everything OK except for a cylinder (round rube) where it leaves the triangles unsmoothed. Any ideas?

Thanks

RE: rendering problems. help!!!

typo...  round rube = round tube

RE: rendering problems. help!!!

We havent had that problem, do you have the STL chord height @ a minimum?  Might try changing model accuracy before exporting.

RE: rendering problems. help!!!

I seemed to sort out the smoothing problem in 3ds max by increasing the angle when importing STL file into max
Thanks
