Dassault announcment of 3D XML

Dassault announcment of 3D XML

Dassault announcment of 3D XML

(OP)
The other day Dassault announced 3D XML has been incorporated into all of their products.  What exactly does that mean in regards to SolidWorks.  I'm guessing its the way that eDrawings uses XML and since eDrawings can view native SolidWorks files, there must be something in the SolidWorks files that allows this.  Am I correct in thinking this, or is there something else/more.  I know UGS has an XML schema for PLM and I think it goes much further than just viewing data (as does Dassault's).  I'm just wondering what all of this means, since press reports often seem to be a bunch of marketing words that sound good.  Any ideas as to what is on the horizon?

RE: Dassault announcment of 3D XML

I believe this XML is used throughout SW. I see this come up in the help, SW RX (mostly) plus areas of SW. I don't think this is a bad thing...? I think it gives us a better piece of software... If I'm talking about the right thing here?
