Drawing regen time/benchmarks/computer horsepower?
(OP)
I have posted several questions lately regarding slow drawing regen times for high quality drawing views with large assemblies. I have worked through all of the recomendations and we still see drawings taking 15-30 minutes to resolve everything on an assembly with a total of 2000-2400 parts. Computer specs, are dual Xeon's 2.4 533 fsb 1 gig ram win2000, quadro 4 750 video card (128 mb). We don't "think we are into virtual memory", is there a way to benchmark what we are doing and accurately predict performance gains with an upgraded system?
Thanks for your help. Sorry to continue to chase this slow rabbit.

15-30 minutes fully resolved 2000-2400 part high quitly drawing... I think those are decent numbers. Do you use Lightweight assemblies?
You should really post this in the original thread you started, instead of starting a new one on the exact same thing as before.

RE: Drawing regen time/benchmarks/computer horsepower?
If your VAR won't help, try SW direct ... or change your VAR to one that will.
RE: Drawing regen time/benchmarks/computer horsepower?
A normal day for my machine:
My machine has 3 versions of SW (3, 4, & 5) on it.
I'm always running 3 web-based Databases, plus 1-2 versions of SW always running with all add-ins on, Outlook 2000, Windows explorer (1-3 windows open). I try to keep a 15 part assembly open in both versions of SW so I can jump from a part or a drawing rather quickly. I also have a new part open with nothing in it, just in case. PDMworks is started and running in the background.
I do all this on 1 gig of RAM, Quadro 1100FX 53.03 drivers, 2.39 Ghz CPU, XP SP1 Machine.
There are times I see slow downs with SW and when I do... I perform those Maintenance tips I have in the FAQ section and do a repair on my SW. This always seems to fix my problems for both SW04 and 05.
But as for your problem Tap - See all the other posts above.

RE: Drawing regen time/benchmarks/computer horsepower?
... so why do you need benchmark specs? Your test proved that you had "no problem". Also you stated:-
... you could have bought several really nice machines for the value of the man hours you have lost. so again, why do you need benchmark specs?
However if you do upgrade make sure the OS is NOT XP-SP2. We just bought a new machine & thats what it came with ... the supplier would not put SP1 on it!!!
