is the ASME B31.1 in accordance with the PED?

(OP)
does anyone know if the ASME B31.1 is in accordance with the PED. I know that a guide has been released by the CEN (europan normalization) to help the use of the B31.3 in europe, but what about the B31.1?.

RE: is the ASME B31.1 in accordance with the PED?

not sure, but I understand the 2004 release of B31.3 ( not yet released) will have wordings which recognize some of the design principles in some of the new EN codes , so there appears to be a form of reciprocity growing.

RE: is the ASME B31.1 in accordance with the PED?

I dont want to be "clever" since im only a process angineer - but at a course held by DNV (in Denmark) about a year ago i was told that you will NEVER get a system CE marked only by referring to an ASME standard (or by referring to US material codes). Even though the system might be in accordance with PED.

We were also told that many steel producers tomay makes various type of steel that complies with both ASTM and EN codes. The problem was in the supplier chain who was not up to the beat. The teacher was from swenden and tol that here they were beginning to catch up - but i think its still a problem in Denmark (that you get a material wich in effect is OK to a certain EN code but only mentions the ASTM code). Dont know about the rest of Europe.

Best regards

Morten
