Ladders at landing platforms
Ladders at landing platforms
(OP)
Encountered a couple of uncertainties in ladder design.
1.Due to space limit, I would place the side rails of a ladder on top of an edge beam of the landing platform. The outside-attached handrail will stop between the side rails therefore, but the kick-plate can go across. My uncertainty is the 8” space required between climbing bar to the permanent object at back of ladder. Someone may consider the kick-plate is the object. But this doesn’t create any hazard since the kick-plate is only 6” high while the first rung is 12” above the landing.
2.A new platform is required near an existing ladder with cage, at about mid-height of the unbroken ladder. Apparently, the best way is to utilize the ladder with an opening for access and exit. What precaution should I consider in this situation?
Thanks for input.
