Minumum Space Required on Perm. Elevated Maintenance Platform

Minumum Space Required on Perm. Elevated Maintenance Platform

(OP)
Hello.

I'm trying to determine if there is an O.S.H.A. requirement pertaining to minimum square footage of a "permanent elevated maintenance platform".
I'm faced with a situation that requires a permanent structure with a minimum area (due to limited space available) where two workers can perform maintenance on an electronic transmitting device located approx. 10 feet Abv. Fin. Flr..

Is there, per OSHA or BOCA, a minimum amount of space on this platform that will facilitate two workers simultaneouly.

Thank you in advance for any assistance with this question.

RE: Minumum Space Required on Perm. Elevated Maintenance Platform

To my knowledge, there is not a requirement for a minimum amount of space that is required.  However, you will want to follow the General Duty Clause of the OSHA CFR.  You need to provide enough space so that the two employees are not getting in each other's way which would create a hazard.  If your space permits, I would suggest constructing an area about the size of the working area of a arial lift, approx 42 sqft.

Make sure you provide proper railing given the height at which your employees will be working >6ft.  You will have to install a top rail, mid rail, and toe board to ensure compliance.
