LEYLANDII TREE NEAR THE FOUNDATION TO BE DUG

LEYLANDII TREE NEAR THE FOUNDATION TO BE DUG

LEYLANDII TREE NEAR THE FOUNDATION TO BE DUG

(OP)
NEED HELP AND RECOMENDATIONS THAT THERE IS A Leylandii (CONIFER) TREE ABOUT 12 METERS HIGH ONLY ABOUT 1.75Mtr. FROM WHERE THE FOUNDATION IS TO BE EXACAVATED. THE SOIL IS LAND FILLED WITH SOME CLAY.HOW CAN I KEEP THE TREE AND WHAT DEPTH I NEED TO GO UP TO FOR FOUNDATION AND WHAT PRECAUTIONS I NEED FOR FUTURE DAMAGE TO THE FOUNDATIONS.

RE: LEYLANDII TREE NEAR THE FOUNDATION TO BE DUG

With that much damage to the roots, you will likely kill the tree.

Even if you don't, do you really want a tree that size that close to your structure?

Move your foundatiuon or remove the tree.

THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSE, IT IS THE BUILDING CONTOL ENG WHO WANT TO KEEP THE TREE,HE THINK GROUND SWELL BECAUSE OF THE MOISTURE IN ROOTS WILL HARM THE FOUDATION IF THE TRRE CUT NOW AND I CAN'T MOVE THE FOUNDATION, I AM WONDERING IF THERE IS ANY WAY TO DESIGN A BARRIER BETWEEN THE TREE AND FOUNDATION WHICH CAN WORK

RE: LEYLANDII TREE NEAR THE FOUNDATION TO BE DUG

I would remove the tree and dig up all of the roots and place engineered fill in the resulting hole.

Otherwise, drive steel sheeting between the tree and the foundation.

RE: LEYLANDII TREE NEAR THE FOUNDATION TO BE DUG

In my experience, if any cut or fill greater than 3" is performed in close proximity of the tree, the tree will die within the year.  I would advise removal of the tree.
