Line Pressure Loss for Diesel

Line Pressure Loss for Diesel

Line Pressure Loss for Diesel

(OP)
The Pressure Loss per length of Hydraulic Oil flowing through hoses of different sizes is readily available.

I need to find the pressure loss of diesel (Grade No. 1-D), kinematic viscosity=1.85 cSt (1.85 x 10^-6 m^2/s) flowing through a 0.50" hose @ 3 feet per second (0.91 m/s).

Any leads to where I could find such data?

Thanks.

RE: Line Pressure Loss for Diesel

Start with the ol' Fluid Mechanics textbook?  The "Moody Chart" as I recall.

Not sure what info is available on hoses- all you need is the roughness, which may be available from the hose manufacturer, or may be derivable from the hydraulic oil pressure loss info.

I would start with this data

http://www.dultmeier.com/pdfs/tech-library/10Diese...

See what these pressures and flowrates back calculate to a roughness and then use that for your 1/2" hose.  Unfortunately, I don't have any direct data for 1/2" hoses.

Or, calculate the flow rate for 3 ft/sec in a 1/2" hose to get gpm.  Use the chart to read off the dP for a 3/4" hose and then adjust that to your 1/2" hose using the relationship

dP2 ~ dP1 * (d1/d2)^5 or for your case, about 7.5 times the dP in a 3/4" hose.
