2005 CD Install causing problems

2005 CD Install causing problems

2005 CD Install causing problems

(OP)
I have a user that had been using the downloaded version of 2005.  His comp was running a bit slow so we upgraded his video card to an ATI Fire GL X2 (supported).  Everything was going well, then he upgraded his install using the CD's.  Now anything he opens crashes and is unstable.  We have verified with the VAR that the drivers are correct.  It seems that his machine becomes more stable if he checks the OpenGL box.  Any ideas ??????  He tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the downloaded version but the problem is still here.

RE: 2005 CD Install causing problems

I am using the ATI Fire GL2 card. The error message I kept getting was that my drivers were not correct, I needed latest AGP Driver. I and IT support loaded different drivers from different sites. One was from the SolidWorks site, ATI site and one from the Compaq site, who by the way built the ATI card (at least their name is on it). I would crash 4 to 6 time’s everyday.
What we did to fix it was give me a master drive with a slave drive. The master is running windows XP Pro. SolidWorks has not crashed for 3 days now. I am still running SolidWorks 2004 SP 4.1

RE: 2005 CD Install causing problems

If the machine is more stable with openGL checked then your peoblem is definately related to your video card.

Here is the answer to the problem.

We got the FireGL to work, it was this AGP ISA Aliasing switch in the BIOS, the mother board had it turned on as a default.  We turned it off and then turned the 4X AGP Transfer back on and so far it has worked.  For the last 2 years we could never run the last video card either in 4X agp.  We are running the latest drivers now with the CD version of Solidworks 2005 loaded.
