Chlorination strategies

Chlorination strategies

(OP)
Hi there!

In a coal power plant 135MW, electrochlorination is used to avoid growth organic fouling in sea water intake pipes and turbine steam condenser, there is a control of free chlorine in the outside of that condenser between 0.05 and 0.2 PPM like free chlorine.

Is possible to shutdown some hours by day?
Bye there

RE: Chlorination strategies

Studies have shown that chlorination at about 2ppm for two hours per day is adequate to control fouling (I'm not positive about the concentration - it's from memory).  This is the practice currently used on some vessels.

For a stationary plant, I would recommend a trial to see what concentration and duration is neccesary as it may well vary with location, sediment in the water, as well as seasonally.

But, depending on the location and nationality, there may be restrictions on discharge of chlorinated seawater,  and dechlorination may be required.
