What does "S.H. CONCRETE" mean?

What does "S.H. CONCRETE" mean?

(OP)
We are in the process of analyzing an existing filigree slab.  On the exisiting design drawings there is a note point to the top layer with the designation S.H. CONCRETE.  Does this mean anything to anyone?  The drawings are from the late '70s.

RE: What does "S.H. CONCRETE" mean?

Surface Hardened.

RE: What does "S.H. CONCRETE" mean?

Is surface hardening the same thing as when they put hardening powder on the surface of a slab....like in a machine shop?

RE: What does "S.H. CONCRETE" mean?

Tim76...yes.  I can be in the form of a "dry shake" done at the time of finishing or can be done as a separate hard topping over the base slab.

RE: What does "S.H. CONCRETE" mean?

You have read the specifications pretty carefully because there are a wide variety of surface applied hardeners ranging from liquid to dry shake-ons.  The costs vary widely too.  Dry shake-ons like Master Plate can get very expensive for both material and labor, but have their specialty uses.
