Scaling temperature for 13%Cr 2.5%Ni 1.5% Mo steel
Scaling temperature for 13%Cr 2.5%Ni 1.5% Mo steel
(OP)
Hi!
Do anyone of you got an idea on the scaling temperature of a steel containing 0.2%C, 13%Cr, 2.5%Ni, 1.5%Ni, 0.25%V, 0.25%Nb?
My guess is 600-700 degree C, but I have not found any written data.

Higher Cr alloys like 430 and 446 hit the limit at about 850C.
The estimate of ~750C sounds reasonable.
The old US Steel, Making, Shaping and Treating of Steel, has some good oxidation data.
Remember cyclic oxidation temps are much lower, and any corrodants in the air can be very damaging.

Corrosion never sleeps, but it can be managed.
