Material Callout - "FL, HR LC .50 X 1.50"

Material Callout - "FL, HR LC .50 X 1.50"

Hello.

I've got a drawing whose material callout is "FL, HR LC .50 x 1.50"

The flat, hot-rolled I've got but I don't recognize the "LC" designation. It's some sort of steel, of course. Given the application (a machine frame), I'd expect it to be A36 or 1045 or something like that.

Can anybody tell me what the "LC" designation means?

Thanks.

low carbon seems like a possibility

dvd, I was just looking freshly at another drawing with the "LC" callout and "low carbon" just popped into my head. I think it likely that that's what it is.

"Low Carbon" is commonly applied to stainless steels that have lower-than-allowable carbon content for better welding/corrosion properties.  Sounds like someone is just carrying it over to carbon steels.

There are also specifically low carbon grades of highstrength low alloy steels. lower carbon also provides good welding, forming, and toughness properties to carbon steels as well as stainless.

I love materials science!

I have seen LC used to describe a lipped channel, but they are usually cold rolled.
