Actuators with limit switches

Actuators with limit switches

(OP)
Can you get damper actuators with in-built limit switches. What do they look like? I have been given a proposal to use seperate actuators and seperate limit switch to fit on the damper. Which is better?

RE: Actuators with limit switches

Yes.  They typically look like a square-ish metal box with a shaft sticking out one side, or sometimes two sides.  Often has "Honeywell" stamped on the cover.

Limit switches on the damper will tell you the position of the damper.  Limit switchs on the actuator tell you the position of the actuator, if the linkage is damaged or disconnected then you don't know what the damper is really doing.

RE: Actuators with limit switches

Try Belimo. They do a massive range and even do fire rated high temp.

RE: Actuators with limit switches

Building on Mint's post, the purpose of the end switch is to confirm the position of a damper (or valve), not the position of its actuator. The switch should be put on the device that needs to be in a certain position, not on its moving mechanism. They should not be built into the actuator - so I would tend to go with your proposal.
