I have some hexagonal bar - appear to be cold drawn - hardness is around 400 BHN
Main elements determined on spectrometer
C 0.25%
Mn 1.65%
S 0.17%
no other elements at significant levels.

What is it?

Apart from trace levels of other elements the balance is iron.

HIGH MANGANESE CARBON STEEL simillar to SAE 1524 though S in your item is high.

I think it is a re-sulfurized grade.

Its actually a failed piece from a very old farming implement. It was a drive shaft linking the PTO to a tiller.
