Component pattern
Component pattern
(OP)
I inserted a component into an assembly. Then I created a linear Component pattern for that component (2 instances). Now the second instance appears in the featuremanager with a (-) sign next to it which means it is underdefined, i.e. I can move/rotate it around. However, when I try to rotate/move the second instance of this component, it says that this instance is full defined. Now if it is fully defined, why is there a (-) sign next to it?

RE: Component pattern
RE: Component pattern
If you created a Linear Component Pattern correctly, using a fully defined 1st instance, the 2nd instance should appear, within a LocalPattern feature, below the Mates section. Is this what you are seeing?
Is the (-) sign you are seeing in front of, or after, the yellow part icon? Sorry if I am asking obvious or stupid sounding questions, but I just want to make sure. No offence is intended.
RE: Component pattern
Yes, original component is fully defined in the assembly.
Yes, I see the instances under LocalPattern feature below the Mates section.
The (-) sign is after the yellow icon.
To answer PDMAdmin's questions:
I am using SW2001Plus SP4.0
The original component is a polygonal disc (with 16 sides). I inserted this disc first into the assembly. Then I inserted a L-shaped component into the assembly and it is this L-shaped component that I need to pattern and mate with the 16 peripheral faces of the disc. Another member of this forum suggested that I can create a circular component pattern by using the assembly temporary axis. I did that & I got 16 instances and they are mated with the 16 faces. But the (-) sign still appears.
Thanks

If you don't have access & if the file is less than 3MB, email it to CorBlimeyLimey AT Lycos.com & I will check it on SW2004.
