Link Note to BOM Item

Link Note to BOM Item

Link Note to BOM Item

(OP)
Here's an example of a tedious task I would like to automate.

We place assembly processes and procedure information in the drawing notes. We refer to the item in the note field by its BOM item number (e.g. "TORQUE ITEM 6 TO 50 FT-LB"). Is there a way to link the item in the note reference to the item number in the automated BOM?

RE: Link Note to BOM Item

Not that I know of. I dont see how you could automate a drawing note to include item number references when different assemblies will have different parts in different assembly order.

A simple workaround would be to place the note next to the Item balloon. That way if the item number changes the note will still be valid.

A better solution ... If a particular part (or sub-assy) always requires a particular note, then set up a "Note X" custom property in the part (or sub-assy) & a "See Note" column in the BOM template. Then your drawing note would be "flagged" by the BOM. That way the item number problem is negated & you would not need to create references in the notes ... just have a set of standard numbered notes placed in a drawing.
To take that a step further, the part (or sub-assy) property could reference a seperate "Process & Procedure" document which could be issued with the drawing package. Then you would not even need to place the notes on the drawings. That will save time & space. Also if the process changes you won't have to go back through all your drawings to update the notes.

Hmmm ... come to think of it, I could use that myself.
