Renaming Parts in SW 2004?

Renaming Parts in SW 2004?

Renaming Parts in SW 2004?

(OP)
How do you Rename parts in SW 2004? I went to Solidworks Explorer - File Open - Edit Configurations - Right click on part and Rename. I'm getting the following error:

"The file O-RING cannot be used as a replacement because it would create a circular reference".

Thanks!

RE: Renaming Parts in SW 2004?

Are you renaming a configuration within a part or do you want to rename the part file?  If you want to rename the part file then browse to the file in SW Explorer.  Then click on Edit, rename.  When that screen comes up click on the Find Now button to locate all the files it is associated with.  You may  want to modify the Search Rules button. After the Find Now is completed type in the new name you want and hit reply.  If you are just renaming a configuration then open the file, highlight the configuration name, rmb, properties then change the name.

I'm just trying to rename an individual part. I have done all that you said and still end up with the same error?

"The file O-RING cannot be used as a replacement because it would create a circular reference".

I'm not even sure what the error means.

RE: Renaming Parts in SW 2004?

Do you have another part of the same name? If you do, pick another name.

RE: Renaming Parts in SW 2004?

What is the name of the part you are trying to rename?
If you are just trying to change from lower to upper case letters you will get that "error" message.

The workaround for that would be to rename it to something different ... say from "o-ring" to "ring" ... then rename it again to "O-RING"
