Code case about WB36 material
Code case about WB36 material
(OP)
Hi everybody!
I have heard rumors that there is an ASME case that allows the EN material WB36/15NiCuMoNb-5-6-4 (1.6368) to be used in an ASME installation, can anyone confirm this?
If this really is the case, what max allowable stress values should be used in an ASME VIII, div 1 application. (I guess that ASME doesn't allow you to just use the stress values from the appropriate EN-standard)
Thanks
Pontus

Unfortunately my company is very cheap
Does the case say anything about stress values?
RE: Code case about WB36 material
Class 1 Tensile at RT 90ksi Yield 64 ksi
class 2 Tensile at RT 95.5 ksi Yield 66.5 ksi
Allow. Stresses at temperature:(ksi)
Temp.Deg. F Class 1 Class 2
100 25.7 27.3
200 25.7 27.3
300 up to 700 25.1 26.6
RE: Code case about WB36 material
You've been a great help.
RE: Code case about WB36 material
I'm a beginner
i must perform the strenght calculation about fittings for
power station
Usually i do that By ASME B31.1
but this material (WB36)is not listed an that rules
and i cannot find the allowable stesscan be apply
sorry for my english
RE: Code case about WB36 material
The answer is no from an administrative standpoint. You would need to have a code case submitted to the B31.1 technical committee to allow use of this material. The code case 2353 only applies to ASME Section I application.
If you are at a location where B31.1 is not mandated by your Jurisdiction, you could use the allowable stress information in the code case and apply it to the formulas in B31.1 for WB36 material.
RE: Code case about WB36 material
I only want to advise you that our customer give to us
a table with the allowable stress to take in to account
I don't know why but tha values are higer than that listed in the Code case 2353:
from 20°C to 420°c = 203 Mpa
430° = 200 "
440° = 182 "
450° = 163 "
460° = 140 "
470° = 117 "
Thank you

RE: Code case about WB36 material
My Boss suggest me to take allowable stress for WB36
considering 2/3 Of Rp0.2 at temperature.
For P91 take it from Table A1 B31.1: i'm not agree because
with this value the min Wth. result bigger than requied.
I also must perform some calculation for tee pieces in P92
(With B31.1)can i use the code case 2179 for the allow. stress ??
Thank you
RE: Code case about WB36 material
If your client is installing the tee pieces as a repair to an existing piping system, Code case 2179 could be used for allowable stress values for P92 material. However, if this is a new high energy pipe installation and you are bound by contract to meet B31.1 code requirements, this material cannot be used.
