Thrust Equation

Thrust Equation

Thrust Equation

(OP)

 Dear All,

I want to replace an electric actuator installed on a knife gate valve in a pressurized line by a pneumatic piston actuator with linear stem motion.

Actually, I want to know the thrust equation that I can apply it which is related to the line pressure, stem’s travel and valve operating time.

Thank You,

RE: Thrust Equation

You need to talk to the valve manufacturer and find out what their thrust requirement for the valve is at the specific line pressure.  Once you know this you can size a linear actuator based on the pneumatic pressure available.

The pneumatic actuator will generally be much faster in operation than the electric model so you may need some speed controls to slow thing's down.
