Power contactor to work at 360 to 800hz

Power contactor to work at 360 to 800hz

(OP)
Dear All,

I am in a stange situation to design a DOL starter for a Matrix controller to be used in aero space application .The Voltage is 3 Phase 200V and frequency range is 360 to 800 HZ and rated current is approximatly 100A.

I need to select the Moulded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB), power contactor and Overload relay for the DOL starter to control the  matrix controller at above mentioned voltage and frequency.

I am not sure any one manufactures MCCB,Power contactor and O/L relay which can work in 360 to 800 HZ frequency range.I request anyone to suggest a possible manufacturer who can supply above.

Regards

ESW,

The major circuit breaker manufacturers have data for many of their breakers up to 400 Hz.  I'd suggested contacting manuf. in your area and asking them.

Like dpc said, SquareD has as PDF file on one of their websites in regard to derating their circuit breakers and contactors for high frequency operation.

For your voltage a 600 volt circuit breaker and contactor should handle the increased frequency but with derating as to the current that it can break.

However, for frequency ranges above 400 Hertz you will need to get an estimate of what will work and then have the manufacturer verify that it will work.

You might also have to do your own short circuit and make break testing to verify that something will work.

Skin effect might also cause your overload relay to trip prematurely. You will need to do testing on a bunch of overload relays at different frequencies to confirm how much error you are getting.

******Instead of going through all this, why don't you use a variable frequency drive to rectify you 360 to 800 Hertz and then put out a constant 360 or 400 Hertz supply that the derating table will cover?

This sounds Military to me.

QUAVIET
Actually both of these companies supply parts and systems for business and commuter class of aircraft, which are the only civilian types certified at present for VF systems.

In his/her original post eswarelctrical said it was for an aerospace application, with no mention of class of aircraft. Regardless, if it is to be installed on an aircraft, the system will have to be approved by an aviation authority, and that includes using approved parts
