Switchgear

(OP)
Hi. What actually are Switchgear and how do they function?
Thanks

RE: Switchgear

Generically, switchgear is a set of switches/knobs/buttons that are used to operate machinery.  Specifically, this term is used by automobile magazines to designate steering wheel, transmission shift lever, pedals, stalks, buttons, etc.

RE: Switchgear

From an electrical engineer, switchgear is a general term covering switching and interrupting devices and their combination with associated control, metering, protective and regulating devices; also assemblies of these devices with associated interconnections, accessories, enclosures and supporting structures, used primarily in connection with the generation, transmission, distribution and conversion of electric power.
Depending upon the voltage level it is utilised it can be highvoltage, low voltage, medium voltage .
There are different designs available in market.
