Graphics Problem

Graphics Problem

Graphics Problem

(OP)
Hi All
I am having a very annoying graphics problem in NX-2.
After running NX-2 for maybe an hour three things happen to my graphics.
1. The preselection only highlights the object for a split second making it very difficult to select.
2. The toolbar buttons that are depressed dont appear to be.
3. The buttons in the dialogue boxes are black and unreadable.
Anyone out there had this problem or know a fix?

I have spoken to PLM helpdesk and they say it could be my graphics card. (Nvidia quadro fx3000)

RE: Graphics Problem

Are you running the latest certified graphics drivers for this card?

I have tried the certfied driver. Currently running latest.

The graphics card on board memory is 256mb ddr.

RE: Graphics Problem

Dave,

I had the exact same problem.  If you shut down UG, and restart, it fixes the problem. Right?  Very annoying.

We just got the newest maintenance release of NX2, and it seemed to fix the problem, however it recently popped up again.  UGS keeps telling me its a graphics card problem.  That would be a valid excuse, however I never had the problem with UG NX!  Now, all of a sudden, I have these "graphics card" problems...

Good to hear someone else has the same problem...

Sorry I can't be of any more help.

Yes you are right. Restarting UG fixes it for a while.

Are you running Windows XP?
If so try changing the appearance to 'windows classic'.
PLMA suggested that this could fix the problem.
It has certainly fixed the problem with buttons not being depressed and turning black. However I still have the problem with preselection only highlighting for a second although it doesnt seem as persistant.

RE: Graphics Problem

This sure sounds like software problem and you have tried the normal stuff. When that doesn´t work I usually start from zero:

1)Do you have a possility to try the card in an other workstation? Just to rule out a defect card or incompability.

2)Have you tried a clean new installation?
If you try a clean installation rip out all the cards in the computer so you only have graphics.

I have came across that some graphic card just don´t want to work as they are supposed with certain mother boards or together with some pci cards.

RE: Graphics Problem

Great tip, Dave!

I'll give it a try.  Yeah, we are using XP.  Like I said, the problem does seem as persistent with the new service release...

Azreal, we thought about the graphics card issue, but then we remembered that we never had this problem with NX1...

I did notice that UG is VERY sensitive to the driver you are using, but we have checked that a million times, with the same problem.

RE: Graphics Problem

On the topic of running Windows XP, I have found that system performance, especially that on my mobile workstation, increases dramatically when I set (in the Windows System Properties) the performance options to "Adjust for best performance". This shuts off all the unnecessary visual enhancements, which use huge amounts of graphics processing. This change will make your interface look very similar to Windows 2000.

RE: Graphics Problem

Good tip, demco.

How does this affect how your models look in Unigraphics?  Are they as sharp as they were before you made the change?
