Text Size

(OP)
I am having a problem with solidworks.  It relates to the size of text on a templates of mine.  The text is twice (approx) the size it should be.
This was not the case before (I have just had to re-install solidworks because of a HD failure).  The template text is the correct size on other people’s solidworks.  And when I open existing files (created on the old install) the text is too big on them.  It looks fine on preview (and looks fine when opened on other peoples solidworks), but when the file opens the text is too big.  We have tried altering printer settings and setting different default printers but nothing works.  I have printed off drawings and compared them with drawings printed before and it’s just the text size that has altered.
PLEASE HELP!

RE: Text Size

One possibility might be that you do not have the font that everyone else is using on your system.  Example, if everyone is using Arial and you dont have Arial perhaps it is being substituted with something else.  We had a similar problem where a customer was sending drawings with an odd font (he thought it looked nice) when we opened the drawings the text was all messed up.  Don't know if thats it but I beleive Annotation Font is a Document setting not a System setting so other than the font being missing from your machine I dont know what else could cause that.

RE: Text Size

If the Print Preview is correct then the problem is your driver.

If it's something your seeing on your screen then have you checked the Text font for all annotations, dimensions, etc...? If those have changed then you need to change them back resave your Drawing Template.

Thanks for your suggestions.

We also thought it might be a problem with the font, but we have the same one on each system.
The print preview displays the text as it prints it, larger than it used to be, and consequently in the wrong place.  I have tried altering the template so the text is the correct size, but when other people open the template its too small, its almost as if solidworks is scaling the border text.  I have been on the other machines and looked at the font and size of the text and its identical, but on my machine its looks and prints larger.

RE: Text Size

I suggest trying to copy the good machines entire Font folder  and replacing yours.  Should be located in C:\WINNT\Fonts or similar.

RE: Text Size

Font types can be tricky you must make certain (not intending to insult or doubt you) that the font used by others is exactly what is on your machine.  I recently had to install Arial MS, we all had Arial font but not the MS which I believe is a Unigraphics Font typically installed with Microsoft Windows XP or Office XP.  But you drawings would view the text all bunched up and when printing would not print any text at all.  Like I said just sounds like a similar thing, I would def check what Scott suggested also.

I checked this out on Friday, and checked font type properties on my machine and another.  The font type is the same; the font size is the same (both units and space).  I also got out I.T manager to copy all the fonts from a good machine to mine, and still nothing.
Thank you all for your suggestions, it’s much appreciated.  I will try and post some screen shots when I get to my desk on Monday so you can see a little better what is going on.
