Balcony supported by steel in cold area

(OP)
This is a question from a friend of mine. Doubting I gave him complete answer, I post here for your advice.

Question: What's is the structual or architectural impact if the balcony support beams are steel and in cold areas, while the structure where the beams come from are insulated and heated?

RE: Balcony supported by steel in cold area

assuming by cod areas you mean areas like new england or montana and not the artic. i would think there be no structura imact. teh steel would just suck heat out of the building envelope like a heat sink
