Showing texture in drawings?

Showing texture in drawings?

Does anyone know how to make the texture on a model's surface show up in the drawing when the drawing view mode is set to shaded?

RE: Showing texture in drawings?

This is not currently possible.

RE: Showing texture in drawings?

I guess if you really wanted, you could render your part or assembly and save the rendering off as a jpeg.  Then you could insert that picture on your drawing - Insert, Object, Create From File, and browse to your picture.  Your rendered picture could also be a screen shot, although it would be a little less realistic than a rendering, but much quicker.  Obviously this picture would not update as your part or assembly update with changes and you would have to re-render and place on your drawing again.  Not the best solution but it techincally is possible to get a textured view of your part or assembly on your drawing.  I would advocate putting in an enhancement request for what you want.

RE: Showing texture in drawings?

You can't Dimension it or do anything with it in a drawing. If all you want is a textured picture, you could just print it out from the part file textured.

RE: Showing texture in drawings?

Although to extend on what Scott was saying. You can have a textured picture with dimensions if you dimension the part with Driven Dimensions. It doesn't look as nice as the drawing level but you can still achieve a textured part with dimensions. Just save it as a jpeg with the driven dimensions shown and then insert it into the drawing as discussed above by pdybeck.

Thankyou for all of your suggestions.  I did submit an enhancement request to the SW site.  There are still many limitations in drawings.  Hopefully when we get 2005, I'll see many of these things corrected.  Maybe they will incorporate this particular function in one of the upcoming service packs.

RE: Showing texture in drawings?

It seems in sw2005 online the notes have some new functionality, like fonts... But this isn't in 2005 and probably the other you're talking about aren't either. maybe 2006. Send sw an enhancement request!
