Bus Bar Inductance

Bus Bar Inductance

Bus Bar Inductance

(OP)
Hi

Could you please give me the formula for the inductance of a single bus bar of L metres. Bus bar of flat shape.
a=width
b=height

Thank you

RE: Bus Bar Inductance

There is more to it than a, b and L. Distance to the return path is also important as well as structure and also relative permeability involved. Is it a single bar in empty space or is it one of three bars in a three-phase system? Visit this URL for more ideas:

Yes I have visited the site. The formula talks about lambda in the formula but there is an 'l' there.
I have raised this with CDA anyway. DO you have a formula please. I am talking of a single bar uninsulated.
Thank you.

RE: Bus Bar Inductance

Kantor- The inductance in Henry's per meter of length would be:
[(ur)(uo)Arccosh(D/2a)]/pi for a cylindrical conductor where D is the distance to the return path, 'a' is the radius of the conductor, ur is the relative permeability of the material separating the two conductors, uo is the permeability of free space/air. Since your bus bar is a rectangular shaped object, a fairly close approximation might be obtainable by imagining a stack of cylindrical conductors with a radius half of the width of the bar and adding to the height of the bar, but since the above is based on Ampere's law and some vector calculus you might want to just alter it to your needs. Good luck!
