Multiple user access to one Assembly

Multiple user access to one Assembly

Multiple user access to one Assembly

(OP)
Is there a way for several users to access one assmebly file for adding components to it?  If everyone in the office is working on the same project, how can we all add/modify parts from that assembly without getting "Read-only" or "File opened by another user" messages?
There must be a setting somewhere to set the assembly file to allow multiple user to access it at once...

Thanks,
Paul

RE: Multiple user access to one Assembly

Last time I worked this way, the compny was running an NT-based network and we were using the portfolio (or whatever the english name is, the icon is a busyness case...) on each computer and we updated the portfolio every morning.

Now, I guess some other way to do so exists, but I'm not sure of their effiency.

RE: Multiple user access to one Assembly

SW 2005 offers multiple users setttings and will cure this problem for you.

RE: Multiple user access to one Assembly

With SW04 or below - Not really other than looking into PDMworks.

SW05 might cure your problems, but without testing it myself I couldn't tell you for sure.

You could try Downloading SW05 - make copies of all your assembly files and parts. and have a few users test it out. You should really fully test any and all new software before switching right over! Because once your over and your files are converted, that's it your locked in.

RE: Multiple user access to one Assembly

You can dowload the 0.0 production version of SW2005 now at the SolidWorks website.  I wouldn't install it for production use, I would wait until I recieved the CD's, but you could install it and do some testing on your files.

SW2005 basically has about (4) settings that control how files are being used by multiple users.  the settings give control over read/write acess, how often to update the files, which user has ultimate control over the file, the ability to transfer control, etc.  I think it will meet your needs nicely.
