Anodize over Flame spray

Have a part that required flame spray Mil-Std-869,Then hard anodize Mil-a-8625 type III. First attempt flame spray pitted and peeled after anodize. Flame sprayer says you cant anodize over flame spray.Does anyone know about these processes?

RE: Anodize over Flame spray

Boeing & Douglas call for either a Sealer Coat or Surface Treat with Alodizing (Alodine or equiv.).
I have never seen the requirement for Hard Anodize on Aluminum Flame Spray. Doesn't mean there isn't one, but it doesn't make sense. Aluminum Flame Spray is a very soft Aluminum Base Material (1100). If a harder material is required (for a Hard Anodized Surface), a harder Plasma Spray Material should be called for.
Aluminum Flame Spray is used for electrical protection or as an Antenna, not a wear surface.

Repair says flame spray SF aluminum to above mil std. grind to dimension .Hard anodize to mil std . Its a cessna part . Military application. Repair info is a T.O..

RE: Anodize over Flame spray

Well, you have me on this one.
I wouldn't "grind" Aluminum either!

Don't know what SF Aluminum is, but will check it out.

Just curious...what is being repaired with Aluminum Flame Spray?

L/G Housing

RE: Anodize over Flame spray

Which flame spray is called for in the repair? I mean, which powder or wire to use?
Anyway, whether the plame spray coating is for dimensional restoration or a wear resistant coating like carbides,  anodizing over a flame sprayed coating seems VERY strange to me, as this process needs really 'contact' with the base material.

Only says Flame spray SF Aluminum.
