clear coat over powder coat
clear coat over powder coat
(OP)
Hi,
I have a one of a kind assembly that has been powder coated and we need to apply some vinyl labels to it that are limited by the mfr to 146 degrees F. I would like to clear coat over the vinyl to protect them from minor abrasion but can't clear powder coat as the temp for this is 350 F. I had planned to have a local body shop shoot some clear epoxy type paint to accomplish this but the powder coater thinks we will have adhesion problems with this. the body shop has no experience with this. Has anyone tried epoxy over powder?
Thanks,
Bob

RE: clear coat over powder coat
However, I have stuck vinyl logos and signwriting onto powdercoated surfaces and they have still looked good after being exposed to weather and abuse for some years.
Unless your vinyl stickers are subject to a lot of abuse, I wouldn't bother trying to protect them. The epoxy probably won't stick to the vinyl either.

One manufacturer is Brady, there are probably others.
