Connecting offset shells

Connecting offset shells

Connecting offset shells

(OP)
I am using shell63 to model a fiberglass circuit board with an adhesive layer around the top, and and aluminum heatsink on top of the adhesive, all which have some thinckness.  I need to link the adhesive to the top of the board, and the heat sink to the top of the adhesive, but since shells model as 2d I cannot simply merge the nodes, and I do not want to increase the tolerence to the thickness of the components so this would work.  Is there an easy and efficient way to link the layers, or am I going to have to connect each node individually?

Thanks for the help
~Scott

RE: Connecting offset shells

I usually use contact elements to "glue" the shell elements together.  I use the MPC algorithm (which is bonded always contact) then use "exclude everything" under initial penetration.  Then select the Beam/shell thickness effect.

Hope this helps
