Piston power grooves - patent

Piston power grooves - patent

(OP)
The patent shown at: http://tinyurl.com/5nk8x describes a modification to be made to the squish area on top of the piston, by placing grooves on it. I understand this technology is used in racing, as well.

Some friends on a Harley-Davidson bulletin board posted a question as to whether this would be a good idea to improve the power of their engine. It looks promising, but I don't know enough about I.C. engines to comment.

Anybody here ever seen or used this technique? Thanks,
